Open May through October with access by boat or shuttle from Canada and the United States. The gorgeous grounds are also available for private weddings.

Mr. Boldt ran the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York City. During vacations, the Boldts stayed at a family home on the St . Lawrence River. In 1900, Boldt commissioned 300 builders to erect the beautiful 120 room fairytale resort on Heart Island, with gardens, a yacht house and a children’s playhouse.
This beautiful castle is said to be haunted by the ghost of Mrs Boldt. Mr. Boldt had it built as a labor of love for his wife. After her sudden death in 1904, he ordered all work stopped. It was never completed, and left on its own for 74 years. Boldt himself never returned to the island. In 1977, the Thousand Island Bridge Authority would open the castle and use all monies for the enjoyment of future generations. Since then, several million dollars have been spent or restoration and rehabilitation. Lights are often reported in the windows of the castle, long after the last boat has left.
